Hi, I’m Hayley! Artist, muralist, teacher, and the person behind Sunflower Studio.

Like a lot of creative people, I’ve worn a few hats over the years. I’ve ran pumping hospo venues, studied illustration at uni, taught everything from painting to social media, excel and small business as a TAFE lecturer, and eventually turned a side hustle running paint and sip events into my full-time creative business.

Sunflower Studio began when those events outgrew local venues and needed a permanent home. The first (and only) space I looked at was an empty 1950s deli, and it instantly felt like home. Today, it’s a gallery, workshop space, and creative hub where people of all ages, abilities, skill levels and neurotypes can feel comfortable walking through the door and creating something cool.

My personal work is inspired by bright birds and local flora, interesting textures and pattern-making. In recent years, murals have become a huge part of my practice. Working on a large scale just feels right, it fills my cup and leaves space for huge brushstrokes and a playful joy in painting. It allows me to create work that becomes part of the community and the places people share, activating spaces and highlighting the local businesses who commission me.

At the heart of everything I do is connection. Whether I’m painting a wall, teaching a workshop, or welcoming someone into the studio for the first time, my goal is simple: to create a space where people feel comfortable, capable, and inspired to create.

I feel incredibly lucky to be building that community here in Geraldton. If the sign’s out the front, you’re always welcome to come in and say hi. 🌻
